This course is designed for beauty therapists or nurses who are seeking to specialise in providing laser hair removal and intense pulsed light hair removal treatments.

COURSE CONTENT
The SHB60118 Advanced Diploma of Intense Pulsed Light and Laser for Hair Reduction has 7 units of competency which are all core units. This course covers intense pulsed light for hair reduction, laser for hair reduction, consultations, infection control, designing treatment plans, laser and IPL safety, and developments in the cosmetic industry.
COURSE DELIVERY OPTIONS
This course is delivered face-to-face at ACTI in Canberra. Our facilities are state-of-the-art and specially designed to meet the needs of this course. Our specialised equipment, quality skin care and fully functional treatment rooms all contribute to ACTI’s second to none learning experience. ACTI offers Distance Education and Mixed Mode learning options for students.
Full Time: 5 full days straight plus 200 hours in our student clinic, practicing what has been learnt in the class under the guidance of our fully qualified trainers and assessors.
Part Time: 10 evening classes, one per week plus 200 hours in our student clinic, practicing what has been learnt in the class under the guidance of our fully qualified trainers and assessors.
Distance Education & Mixed Mode: theoretical learning to be completed at home with practical training at ACTI.
COURSE DURATION
We know that everyone’s schedules are different. ACTI’s course options allow flexibility to balance work, family and study commitments.
Full time and part time options are available. Study full time for 5 full days for 7 months, or part time with one evening class over 10 weeks for approximately 46 weeks. While learning hands-on in the classroom, you’ll also complete training in our Student Salon where you will gain real-life industry experience performing management and administration tasks. Enjoy the perks of school holiday breaks that align with the ACT school holidays.
STUDENT SALON
ACTI’s Student Salon is where you will practice and refine your skills for paying clients. You will be performing laser hair removal and IPL hair removal treatments as well as consultations and admin-related tasks. You’ll be providing services on a ‘not-for-profit’ basis and gain valuable experience treating real clients, while being guided by your educator.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who:
- have achieved a Diploma of Beauty Therapy; AND
- have 12 months post-qualification experience as a beauty therapist with a primary focus on providing facial services, skin services and hair reduction services;
OR
- are an Enrolled Nurse or Registered Nurse; AND
- have 12 months post-qualification experience in the application of knowledge in human biology, anatomy and physiology.
ACTI courses are in high-demand and spaces are limited. Our students must demonstrate that they hold a suitable level of language, learning and numeracy skills to complete this course.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)
You may be eligible to receive ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’ (RPL) if you have previous work experience or training. This will allow you to be deemed competent in certain areas, which will exempt you from some elements of the course including assessments.
