What does a beauty therapist do?
A beauty therapist is provides a broad range of beauty therapy treatments and services including facial treatments, body massage and treatments, hair removal, lash and brow treatments, nail and make-up services. This includes consultation with clients to provide beauty advice, recommend beauty treatments and services, and sell retail skin-care and cosmetic products.

At ACTI, we will give you the skills you need to graduate as a fully qualified, in-demand beauty therapist. So where to from here? We’ve outlined below some of the popular career paths available to beauty therapists, however the list is endless!

Traditional Beauty Therapy in a Spa
Working in a traditional spa can be incredibly rewarding. Performing a range of services and treatments, your clients will be seeking relaxation, pampering and traditional beauty therapy treatments. These may include massage, pedicures, spa treatments, and lash & brow services.

The Clinical Environment
Beauty therapy has grown and evolved to become a huge, booming industry thanks to the new technology, social media influences, and ease of access. Laser hair removal, for example, has become one of the most widely performed services in Australia by beauty therapists. Therapists working in the clinical environment may perform advanced facials, microdermabrasion treatments, light therapy treatments, and more. While still performing many of the same treatments as the traditional spa therapist, the clinical environment often focuses more on corrective beauty treatments. Beauty therapists wanting to advance their scope of practice in the clinical environment may choose to further their education at a university or higher education level.

Laser Hair Reduction Therapist
Within the clinical environment lives the laser hair reduction therapist. Depending on the state or territory you live in, the laser therapist will have varying requirements for education levels and training. At ACTI, we offer the Advanced Diploma of IPL & Laser for Hair Reduction for our beauty therapists who are seeking to advance their skills and become laser therapists.

Manager, Supervisor or Business Owner
Many experienced therapists, or even those new to the beauty industry, embark on their journey of salon management or ownership. Leading a team, managing employees and running a business can be incredibly rewarding and a great learning experience. A job role with many required skills including communication, delegation, marketing, conflict resolution, and teamwork.

Educator or Trainer
Throughout your career in beauty therapy, you will learn something new every single day. If you have a passion for education, helping others or simply enjoy passing on your knowledge and skills, a career as an educator or trainer in the beauty industry may be for you. Formal training is required to deliver accredited training courses.

Working in a niche-specialty
As you complete your studies and gain work experience in the industry, you will find aspects that you absolutely love. Taking this a step further in specialising in this area can help you become an expert in the service or treatment. From brows and lashes, to skin or nails, a niche-specialty can help you take your career to the next level.

Work Overseas or on a Cruise Liner
As a beauty therapist, the opportunities to work and travel are endless. Pursue a career in a tropical resort day spa, travel the world on a cruise liner working in the beauty salon, or take your skills internationally.
